- 1991 Habilitation at the Faculty of Theology of the Ruprecht-Karls-University of Heidelberg; awarded teaching qualification for Historical Theology
- since summer 1996 Professor for Church History with a focus on Early Church History at the Faculty of Protestant Theology of the University of Bonn
