Ruben A. Bühner was employed as a research assistant with Prof. Dr. J. Frey in Zurich from 2018-2020 and as an assistant with Prof. Dr. M. Tilly at the University of Tübingen in 2020. In 2020 he received his doctorate in theology (summa cum laude) from the University of Zurich with a thesis on early Jewish messianic expectations in the New Testament. For his dissertation he was awarded the research prize of the Zentrum Altertumswissenschaften Zürich (ZAZH) and the Manfred Lautenschlaeger Award for Theological Promise 2021 of the Forschungszentrum Internationale und Interdisziplinäre Theologie (FIIT, Heidelberg).
From 2020-2023, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Zurich and wrote a habilitation thesis on "Paulus im Kontext des Diasporajudentums". His research focuses on the intersection between ancient Judaism and the texts of the New Testament. As part of the "Argelander Starter-Kit Grant – Stepping Stone" program, R. Bühner will move to Bonn for two years from October and, alongside his own research project on "Krise und Apokalyptik", will further enrich the teaching on offer here.
