Over the next three years, experimental seminars will be offered in the regular curriculum. Students will investigate the reception of religious and biblical traditions in video games according to the principles of research-based learning and present their findings in their own video game essays. The students are also given the opportunity to conduct a supervised field study at a video game producer. The project is under the direction of Jun.-Prof. Jan Rüggemeier, Mag. Theol. Lara Mührenberg, B.A. and PD Dr. Ruben Bühner. For further scientific support, the position of a research assistant will be filled from 2025.

Junior Professor Jan Rüggemeier once again successful with innovative teaching project
Although video games represent a significant part of contemporary (popular) culture and are often permeated by religious elements - as shown by the example of Assassin's Creed or BioShock Infinite - they receive almost no attention in contemporary theology. This is where the “Religion Digital” project comes in by making digital media the subject and vehicle of academic reflection.
